Chicken Wings Bento
Today's bento contains a bunch of chicken wings we grilled the night before. I asked my 7-year-old if he could eat 6 of them and he said "yup!" I also pan-fried some lightly steamed red kabocha in butter and garlic, and snugged some steamed colorful veggies in the spaces (yellow cauliflower, broccoli and romanesco) There's also a purple carrot skewer, a grape tomato, some chopped blood oranges and a blackberry. All packed up in our LunchBots Duo. Bento: accomplished!

ReplyDeleteHi, Your Bento boxes look so nice.. Can i ask you a question, my son is going to Kindergarden in Sept and i want to make me Bento boxes to school too, I just don't know how to make the food stay fresh for few hours if he is taking the bento box to school with him in the morning..
ReplyDeleteTHank you
Carmen
Hi Carmen,
ReplyDeleteAs long as you don't pack anything perishable like raw fish, dairy (yogurt), or undercooked meat, the food you pack should stay fresh for a few hours. If the weather is warm and you are afraid of spoilage, you should add an ice pack into the insulated lunch tote; which is what I do in the summer. A tight-sealing box also helps. Make sure you allow the food to cool down before closing the box, unless you are using a thermal food jar, which will keep food hot for several hours. The food jar is a good option if you are packing soup, stew, or chili-type foods. Hope this helps.
Have fun making bento for your little one!
Thank you SO much!! I am always worry that the food would turned bad if leave it out for hours without putting in fridge.. do you also suggest buying those ' Clear Paper" ( forgot the name) at Daiso to make the food stay fresh in bentobox?
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
I haven't personally used the antibacterial papers, but they are convenient enough to use so I would definitely try them. Also, using pickled items (with vinegar in the ingredients) will extend the food life and help prevent spoilage.
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome!
