Hello Kitty Quail Egg Bento

I haven't posted a TinySprite bento for awhile so here's one from last week. It's a post-nap snack bento, with various fruit: pluot, kiwi and superripe saturn peach; a cup of edamame, carrot sticks and a little furikake mahimahi. I boiled a quail egg and tried to use a metal star cutter to form a star, but you can see it didn't really work. So instead I stuck some radish ears, rice stick whiskers, nori eyes and a yellow carrot nose (and the very useful red bow pick) and turned it into baby Hello Kitty. She was so excited about this bento; I was glad I had the presence of mind to take some pics of her eating it. The last time I did was almost 6 months ago. She looks so much older now, doesn't she? But still sitting in the baby booster seat, haha! She still prefers to eat with her hands, even though I always provide a utensil. So, things usually end up getting kind of.. messy. Ah, well. ^_^

Your girl is so cute and pretty and I can see she truly enjoyed the bento!

My boy is the same... each time he will use his fingers instead of using all the utensils... ah... KIDS!

But yes, her baby-looks are fading but her cuteness isn't!

Furikake mahi?! I'd be excited too!

  6. I love your blog! I am new to bento and I'm wondering how you made the carrot sticks look like flowers? Was it with a particular tool or did you just use a pairing knife? I am going to be a frequent visitor here. :)

  7. She is ADORABLE!! You are one awesome mama doing a great job there. Look at her! Plus, proof positive that she actually EATS all that wholesome goodness. Wow. I'm super impressed. That is also one super cute baby HK. Don't worry about the finger food eating part, my kid's almost 6 and she still loves eating with her hands. haha!

  11. Thanks everyone! She is growing so fast, but still retaining her baby ways... like kids often do!
Krysta, I use a regular paring knife to cut slivers from around the sides of the carrot to form petals. But be careful, since the carrot is round! Thanks for finding me here :D
Karaimame, we have the same troubles with exploding cherry tomatoes that end up splattered all over the face, clothes and table. Who knew it could fly so far out of her mouth?
