Meatballs Bento
TinySprite gets sweet tomato sauce meatballs in her little bento today (see the sauce recipe here). I was able to squeeze four of them in, alongside a piece of sweet corn on the cob topped with an Okinawan sweet potato butterfly cutout. I nestled everything into a lettuce leaf, but naturally she didn't eat it. She's not a big "salad" fan, unlike her brother, unfortunately. The top tier contains carrots, steamed broccoli, cherries, blueberries, a blackberry and sliced dapple dandy pluot. This pluot variety has sweet flesh but tart skin. Have you tried it?

I almost bought a pluot the other day. That's one fruit I haven't tried yet. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteJenn, it's my favorite summer fruit! So many different varieties. The best are the dark (almost black) ones with blood red flesh. If you can find those, they're definitely worth getting. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNew fruit for me, pluot looks like plum / apricot. Just great to see your colorful summer bento! My kids not a big fan of salad too. So I'm okay with only the lettuce left in their bento box :)

Like the way you wrote "dapple dandy pluot"! Simple cut out makes the whole meal look so great!

I don't eat meat and I don't like sauce too much - but this looks delish! The pluot sounds familiar...I might have had it before and never thought about it.

Never tried the pluots, they look yummilicious though! That butterfly is so sweet. I esp like the elephant pick to eat the meatballs with. That is a lot of food for a tiny sprite like yours.. Possibly she eats the fruits for morning/afternoon snacktime? She is one lucky kiddo to have an awesome Mama like you!

ReplyDeleteI have the same elephant toothpick (or whatever it's called)! Love your bento has lots of fruits. I know some kids don't even eat fruits while yours are consuming lots of them every lunch!
