Today's bento has fried brown rice and quinoa with spinach, red onion, mushrooms, egg and Chinese sausage. I added a beet-dyed quail egg on top decorated with nori to look like a spring ladybug. Other side has chopped cara cara oranges, strawberries and grapes. It's a quick bento today.

It's wonderful that you use all kinds of grains for your fried rice. My family is open to whole grains & wheat for baked items but not their rice or pasta! I guess I'll have to slowly sneak those grains in bit by bit. ;)

ReplyDeleteI don't think they even notice the quinoa, actually. It adds a fun texture and looks cool. Plus it's high in protein, which is nice. Hope you can try adding it in rice.

Thanks Jenn; I used paper sealant to coat the crane after it was folded. It helps keep the shape without adding too much weight.

Heather, I like quinoa since it added a protein punch with such little effort and taste. It really doesn't taste like much to me, and you can eat it hot or cold, with dressing like a salad, or mixed into rice, which is how I usually use it. I buy mine in bulk. It might be cheaper that way.
