Tiger Asparagus Bento
This bento isn't made from leftovers, for once. I found baby asparagus in the grocery so I decided to make turkey asparagus rolls for my boy. He really loves to eat these, and my girl is the same. If you want to see your kids gobble down asparagus, you might think of offering it this way. I blanched the asparagus first, then wrapped and pan-fried. That's it. The salty flavoring from the bacon or other cured meat is enough to make the veggies nice and tasty. I've also wrapped spinach logs this way, and you'd be surprised how many vegetables kids can eat like this. Hapa Bento made a similar bento filler recently too, here, using ham. The next section has steamed broccoli and yellow corn, along with a few cute grape and pear tomatoes. For fruit he has mango plum and red grapes. I added a sweet potato tiger face, since it's such an easy way to add a cute detail (see previous bento, heh). Voila! A healthy, yummy bento in mere minutes. Just the way I like it :)

that IS a lot of asparagus - yum, and good for you for finding ways to get your kids to eat so much healthy stuff! that cute tiger looks like he's stalking out from an asparagus jungle, tee hee!
ReplyDeleteAww... I love it when you use this box. So does this tiger!
ReplyDeleteVery nice and healthy lunch! perfect with cute tiger!
ReplyDeleteThe turkey rolls look so yummy with the baby asparagus inside. My kids always said that asparagus taste like peanuts so they love it ... oh well! As long as they eat green, I don't mind for their opinion. Fresh and healthy bento to start on Monday! Love the little cute tiger too :)
ReplyDeleteWow! That baby asparagus is tiny and adorable! Another great bento full of healthy variety and bright colors! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteSo good idea!! I myself love wrapped asparagus or boiled with a fried runny egg :9 (aha, I can only think about food! )
ReplyDeleteYour bento is so colorful!! So *envious" ^_^. The tiger is adorable too!
bento help please! You are an inspiration! My bento problem is how do you keep stuff COLD. Do you pack your bento in a case? The one I have *laptop lunch type) has some room for a cold pack. But other bentos I have seen and loved I can't figure out how to really use it safely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for any Bento use tips!
Hey this is a great idea! About the only thing I could do to make my kid eat some green stuff was adding butter to it after it was cooked or blanched. I will definitely try this ham/bacon wrap! Love the cutie tiger too!
ReplyDeleteHi Sheri, I was wondering if the lid of this box is deep enough so those cute tomatoes can be fit inside?
ReplyDeleteCute tiger BTW ^_^ love all the details!
Wonderful colors and the asparagus roll ups look delish!
ReplyDeletemegan, Thanks! It IS a lot of asparagus; I can't believe he eats it all. They are pretty skinny though :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Debra and Yenny!
Lia, Lucky you that your kids love asparagus! It's kind of a fun food, I think :)
Thanks Megg and karaimame!
jill, I pack all my kids' bento in an insulated zipper lunch tote which has plenty of room for a separate ice pack or two (one on top, one on bottom). If you live in a warm climate it's essential to keep the bento cool. You're right to be concerned. Hope this helps.
Chantale, I bet K would love these wraps; nice and salty as they are. Hope you can try it!
Just a MOM, this box has a raised lid which allows me to place foods on top of the dividers for decoration. I love that! Everything you see was packed into this bento with the lid snapped on. I may have pushed the tomatoes into the broccoli a bit but they all fit.
Mommyof2girlz, thanks a lot!
Gorgeous bento! Cute tiger and beautiful arrangement. :)
ReplyDeleteHi I'm a new follower found you via What's for Lunch Wednesday. I love the tiger face. =) I may try that asparagus trick. =D

ReplyDeleteI am so enamoured of your ninja egg that I tried one for myself in my daughter's lunch. It doesn't look nearly as cute as yours but I had to try it out!
Thanks Kim; do try it and let me know if she likes it :)
