It's true that the slime makes the gumbo as thick and delicious as it is, though. I think the quick breading and frying probably cuts the slime ooze factor, and that's a great idea for folks to try the first time. And I've never seen okra plants. I swear I get giddy wh...The slime is the best part! I swear I get giddy when I cut into it and it coats my knife. That's what makes gumbo, well, gumbo! It doesn't seem slimy to me breaded and fried, though, and you can add spices to the breading if you like. I like mine breaded with cayenne pepper-seasoned cornmeal.<br /><br />Also, I think okra plants, when blooming, is pretty enough to be in a flower garden. I didn't realize my grocery carried it until now because I never wanted to cook it. But once you get past the slime, it's delish!!
