Jack-o-lantern Calzone Bento

Yes, it is in fact a Jack-O-Lantern calzone! Kind of. Instead of the half moon shape, I tried to make it rounder by closing it on the bottom instead. I found that it's not easy to cut a jack face into a calzone. I didn't want the innards to run out, so I didn't cut all the way through. And I think I made the features too small, for the same reason. Anyway. There he is, and I'm calling him a jack-o-lantern, so there! Also in the container: carrots, kabocha, Okinawan sweet potato, broccoli, star-cut radish, orange wedges, and grapes. Two more weeks to go. Can I do it??

  1. The ideas for Jack still going strong, I believe. You shouldn't have any problems for the rest of 2 weeks until Halloween. Oh well! It's Friday here for me, so wish you a great weekend ahead! Say hi to MM & TS :)

  2. So cute! Maybe next time you could try double-wrapping it and using a pumpkin-shaped cutter before cooking and wrapping it?

  4. I think he looks great! It does sound difficult to cut the face, though. Great job placing the kabocha for the stem :)

  5. Thanks Lia, AikoVenus, Heather and Natakiya!
I thought about cutting the shape before baking but not convinced it would retain the pumpkin shape afterwards. Thanks though :)

  7. Oh Sheri, I missed a couple of your posts already. I just went over the posts I missed. You have all Halloween theme bento! Such an amazing bento you've been making! Today I had a chance to see preschooler's bento... my gosh, everyone is eating pretty horribly and I felt so bad. Your bento is like ideal and all kids deserve to have bento like this! Not just "cute" part, but "HEALTHY"..... that's the most important part!

  9. Nami, that's so sweet and a very good point which I agree with you on - all kids should have a nutritious lunch to help them through a day of learning and fun activity. I've found over the past couple years that my kids' classmates lunches have improved a lot! I think parents are changing their thinking and coming around. Yay! Thanks for your support with every comment. I also look to you for cooking and recipe inspiration each day ^_^

    Thanks very much Karen!!
