Chili Jack O'Cheese Bento and TinySprite's 1st Day of Preschool Bento!

Today MisterMan has chili and rice, with a jack-o-lantern cheddar cheese topper. I could have melted it in, but I left it "raw" and he ate it. Yay! I also roasted some cherry and pear tomatoes in olive oil and garlic and put them in a silicone cup. For fruit he got strawberries and grapes. The rest of the gaps I filled with carved carrots, steamed broccoli, and peapods. Everything fit snugly in this EcoLunchbox. I love the separate lidded container it comes with; you may have noticed I usually use it for things like chili and other gravy- or sauce-type foods. I've also used it for yogurt or cottage cheese with fruit topping.
I'm including TinySprite's first preschool bento here too. It contains tortilla rollups with ham, cheese and spinach, carrots, a strawberry, grapes and orange melon. It was her very first day today, and she did great! They had a lot of fun, went on a walking field trip, picked apples and tomatoes, and she even made a bff. The teacher told me I'd hear all about her new best friend, since they spent a lot of time chatting and playing together. I picked her up during lunchtime, and watched her interact with the other kids. Sure enough, she was so distracted talking with them that she didn't finish. I was a little disappointed about that, but figured she could finish the rest at home. Well, this is what happened when she sat down to finish:
At first I thought she was just thinking, but then I saw this:
Guess she was pretty worn out!

  1. Two awesome bento! TS is so cute ... She must be very tired from her 1st day of school with the school activities and socializing things with her classmates :) You always provide a healthy balance bento for your kids. I think she will be allright, she just took a quick nap :)

  2. Hi Lia!
Two bento takes some getting used to! Although my girl's bento will be quite small, since she's not eating as much at school. I'm so happy she had fun. She has never fallen asleep at the table like this before. I carried her up to her room and she never woke up for another couple hours! Must have been quite a lot of excitement for her today :)

  6. Thanks Yenny! Never seen her do that before! I think I'm getting pretty good at 2 bento; well, my girl's will be quite easy. Especially this one, with no cuteness except from the pick. Ha!

  13. I have to make 2 bentos all the time, I have 2 boys who are age 7 and 5, plus I still have to take care of 1.5 baby at home. For me making 2 bentos is not an easy job, that's why I like to prepare things a night before.
BTW, I love the way you arrange fresh fruit and veggies, and TinySprite is so adorable ^_^

  17. I love how varied and healthy your kids lunches are! Yay to Tiny Sprite on starting preschool! I'm not surprised she already has a bff. I mean really, does she look shy? Uh nope. lol. Those last 2 pics are the cutest ever! Um, hate to break this to you Sheri but.. I think she's outgrown the baby plastic chair..her legs are so long! : )

  18. Thanks Sysyl: although tomatoes are fruit and my kids eat them as is, they also will eat them savory too. SO versatile!
Thanks Bobo, tatabonita, Ohayobento, karaimame and Jenn! Yep, two bento. A big change for me, but luckily the preschool one is very quick to make.
Wow Lina, that's fantastic! You will soon be making 3 bento! I definitely agree about preparing the night before. Makes the mornings go so much more smoothly.
Thanks so much for the sweet comment and the follow, define1lady!
veganf: the falling asleep at the table hardly EVER happens here. Like NEVER. So I was shocked! It was so cute and funny though, and she didn't even stir at the camera click.
Thanks Susan! Can you believe something tired her out?
Thanks Chantale! Yep, you know her. She must have been talking about me too, because all the kids greeted me with "Hi Lucy's Mom!" when I arrived today, hehe!
Re: baby chair -- I KNOW! But I love it. She sits still and her mess is confined. It's genius. Too bad they don't make bigger sizes. Heh.
