Lions Bento

Lions Bento, originally uploaded by sherimiya ♥.
Hangin' out with TinySprite today, she watched me make her bento and had lots of questions. By now she knew right away about the apple bunnies, but was very curious about the egg and the turkey dog thing. "You making egg? You cutting hot dog? You rolling it? You making samwich? It's hot? Don't go so close? Can I stand here? How 'bout here?" And etc. Then afterwards, "Can you take picture? Take MY picture!" So finally after putting it together I showed it to her and she yelled right away "Lion!" And knew the boy lion had a "hat". Success!

She got: turkey dog egg rollup lions with nori detail, steamed broccoli, grape tomato, grapes, mini mandarin and apple bunnies.

And yep, I think she liked it. ^_^

  2. haha her eating/proud face is PRICELESS. is she good about taking all the little picks out and everything, or do you do that for her (after the photo)?

  3. Aw, thanks Marisa! She does like her fun food. Makes it worth the extra effort for the appreciation :)

    Hey megan!
She's a real camera hog, that one. She'll try to get in everyone's picture if she can, doesn't matter if she knows the people or not!
As for the shots, I don't touch ANYthing. She asked for that particular spoon vehemently, then proceeded to totally ignore it and eat everything by hand. She does pull off all the picks, stems, seeds, and/or bones and usually puts them all in the cuphole.
Thanks, and I hope YOU have a relaxing weekend with no work at all (right?) "See" ya Monday!

  7. Lia,
If she were lucky enough to have Auntie Lia close by, she would be over your house all the time, haha! Thanks for your encouraging comments, I look forward to them! You have a wonderful weekend too :)

    Thanks Kashmirkat! She did :)

Hi Jenn! Yeah! I know the girl lion has no mane, but no one called me on it yet; the bow makes it okay, I guess :)
    Thanks a lot!!

  8. Oh my...TS is growing so quickly. Compared with the other series taken a while back, she looks much taller in these photos. You may have to update her handle to "Tiny Sprout".

    What a cutie patootie!

  9. That's what my mom said too! You're right, she did sprout up seemingly overnight. Where'd my baby girl go? Not so fast, TinySprite!

    Thanks a lot Debra!

  18. WOW! This is so amazing and so adorable!!!

Haha, I'm a university student and I want to do this for my lunches!! How do you cute out those little faces with such precision? And is 'egg roll' just a sheet of egg? Haha, sorry if these are amateur questions!

  19. Thanks a lot Shirley!

The nori faces are cut with a craft punch. You can find them in the stationery or craft section.

And yes, the egg is just a thin fried egg rolled around the turkey dog.

I'm happy to answer any questions you have; I learned from other bento makers the exact same way!

    Thanks for visiting and reading!

  20. craft punch??? that's awesome! does that mean i can pretty much use any shape craft punch on nori? is there a trick to cutting it cleanly?

  21. Lani,
Yes, you can use just about any craft punch that is made for paper. If your nori is thin, it might be best to double up the thickness to get a cleaner cut. Hope this helps!
