Pesto and Semi-dried Tomatoes Pasta Bento

Besides the pasta, MisterMan has yellow peppers and enoki stir-fried with olive oil, garlic and shoyu. Purple carrot skewer, cukes, peapods, sweet potato flowers, tomato and Spanish olive salad with feta, and fruit section of strawberries, kiwi, red grapes and honeydew nectarines -- these smell fantastic, but sadly, they don't taste as sweet as the black plums or pluots, my all-time favorites.

  1. Love your bentos. They are pretty. Roughly how long does it take to complete a bento box?

  2. I'm getting faster these days, so about 20 minutes not counting cooking time.(Just cutting, preparing and arranging.) The picture-taking takes me longer :D

  3. Wow, that's a bit time-consuming... If you add the cooking time, it'll be at least 20 mins more. For a beginner, it could take up to an hour for the entire process?

Since these boxes are so beautiful, I thought there would be some work involved.

  4. I very rarely cook especially for the bento. Almost all of my bento are derived from dinner leftovers the previous night. That's why I don't count the cooking time. If you set aside a bit from the meal, all you have to do is arrange it in the box. Same with the salad, cutting the carrots and fruit, etc.
Cooking just for the bento is totally unnecessary. Some people even use precooked stocks frozen in bento-sizes. Very convenient. There is some effort involved, but it should not take an hour. In this bento, if I didn't place those black sesame seeds, it really would have saved a lot of time and still would have looked perfectly fine.

  5. That's a clever idea... I didn't think of dinner leftovers to use for the bento. Now I might give it a try. I was initially intimidated by thinking how much time I'd have to spend on each box. Thanks for sharing!!
